Subject Selection Process for 2022 courses

Juliet Collins —

The 2022 Curriculum Handbook is now available digitally here. Parents and students should look through the information it contains so that they are aware of the range of options available. Deans, Subject Heads, the Careers and Pathways Strategist, and the Assistant Principal - Curriculum can be contacted for advice if necessary. They will all be available at the Subject Selection event.

It is advisable to check courses, not only at the year level the students will be in next year, but also those offered at the next level so that a pathway can be considered. Some courses have requirements of previous study before they can be taken at higher levels. The Curriculum Handbook also contains essential information about NCEA requirements for those studying at Levels 1 to 3.

Students in Years 9 to 12 this year, are invited to attend our Course Selection session in the Science Centre on Friday 24 September at 3.25pm. It is a useful time for talking to teachers and for planning next year’s courses, so we hope to see as many students as possible at this event. It is a bit of a ‘speed dating’ event, all over by 4.30. It is unlikely that we will be free of Covid-19 restrictions at this time, so unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend.

Subject choice deadline is Thursday 30 September, which is the last week of term. The subject selection documentation will arrive by email with a link to the girl’s individual subject choice sheets.

The deadline is set to allow preparations for next year’s timetable to begin. This is a complex undertaking as the timetable is constructed around the students’ selections, rather than based on predetermined blocks of subjects.

We endeavour to meet as many needs as we are able. While it remains possible to change courses after this date, it becomes even more difficult to meet every request.
