Mental Skills Coaching at Rangi Ruru
The mental skills programme at Rangi Ruru has been running for almost six years and is run by mental skills coach, Paula Rule. Coming from an education background, Paula loves the opportunity to work one on one to help people overcome mental barriers so they can be the best versions of themselves.
During school time, mental skills sessions are offered to participants of the SOAR Sports, and StEP music programmes. Outside of school, Paula also offers mental skills sessions to the public.
While mental skills coaching is not new, a lot of people are still unsure about what is it. These questions and answers may help.
Q: What exactly is mental skills coaching?
In short, mental skills are tools and training for your mind. Our brain is like a muscle, we must regularly and intentionally train it, if we want it to perform the way we want it to. The tools you learn have been shown to improve positive self-talk, enhance confidence and self-belief, goal setting, build better self and situational awareness, achieving productive/growth mindsets
Q: What does a mental skills coach do?
A mental skills coach is focused on getting the best out of those they work with. Focusing on understanding emotions and adapting behaviours, we use effective strategies and tools to help improve mindsets, restore confidence, enhance motivation and focus, reduce mental errors or barriers, improve performance, plus much more.
Q: Is Mental Skills coaching right for me?
Mental skills coaching can be highly beneficial for anyone who is motivated to be better. But, if you:
- want to learn how to deal with failure and overcome setbacks
- recognise you need help with creating a growth mindset
- are after easy-to-use skills and strategies to overcome mental barriers to growth
- feel like you are lacking in confidence and/or self-belief
- are struggling with pressure and demands put on you
- disorganised and/or unmotivated
Then YES, Mental skills coaching is for you!
