Sandra Hastie —

Today we held our Term 2 Awards Assembly - it was great to see so many parents and caregivers of our award recipients joining us. These assemblies are special occasions and I congratulate the students recognised for their achievements today.

I would also like to congratulate our Resolutions Choir who performed so well last Friday at the regional Big Sing. The Choir took out Outstanding Performance of a Composition with a Maori or Pasifika Text - choreographed by Elisah Vili-Umaga, Outstanding Performance of a Contemporary Art Composition (jointly with Cantrices from Christchurch Girls' High School) and Outstanding Recital Performance by an Upper Voice Choir.

What an evening we had on Saturday with our Years 12 & 13 students, partners and staff at the Senior Dance. Held at Majestic Church we had over 300 attend, who enjoyed great music, costumes (a lot of which were home made!) and a fantastic buzz. Well done to those who contributed to the organisation of the evening - we had a lot of fun!

This week has been International Languages Week with a lot going on around the school in celebration and recognition of our diversity in culture and language. It is heart warming to see so many students get behind the idea, involving themselves by hosting an internationally themed bake sale, coming together at lunch to create origami bees (in theme with Thrive in the Hive) or just taking the time to consider how respect and aroha for others can have an impact on their day. I believe Rangi to be a truly unique environment in New Zealand education, and weeks and events like these reinforce my opinion – thank you to those students who helped organise the week.

Finally, for those of you looking to attend our upcoming Friends at Five Thirty speaker series event, I would encourage you to purchase your tickets ASAP as it is close to selling out (see more info and book here). I look forward to seeing a few of you there.
