News from the Art Department

Rosa Connor —

Kia Ora Rangi hapori,

This week, our Art Department is a buzz with excitement and creativity as students across all year levels engage in their artistic pursuits.

Year 11 students are diving into a new oil painting unit, building on their prior experience with printmaking and photography. This new medium offers them the opportunity to explore rich textures and vibrant colours, pushing their artistic boundaries even further.

Our Year 12 and 13 students are deeply immersed in their individual projects, focusing on refining and developing their ideas to push their creativity to new heights. Their dedication and passion are evident as they work tirelessly to bring their artistic visions to life.

Charlotte Syme (Year 12)
Ivy Lui (Year 12)
Mieka Engelbrecht (Year 12)

Katherine Wang (Year 12)
Kate Lynas (Year 12)
Hester Nott (Year 13)
Lily Hyde-Smith (Year 13)

In addition to their ongoing projects, the senior students have been eagerly preparing for their trip to Sydney today. This exciting adventure promises to be a source of inspiration and growth as they immerse themselves in the vibrant art scene of Sydney and the work of international artists, while attending a series of exhibitions and events.

Off to Sydney!

We are also thrilled to announce that artwork submissions are now open for the 'Speak 4 the Planet' (S4P) competition until June 7. S4P is a multifaceted competition encompassing public speaking, spoken word, performance, and visual arts. It provides a platform for students to express their ideas for a better world. This year marks the fifth anniversary of S4P in Christchurch, and we are excited to see the innovative and impactful submissions from our talented students.

As our akōnga continue to explore their artistic potential and express their creativity, the Art Department remains a vibrant hub of activity and inspiration. We look forward to sharing their evolving works and celebrating their achievements with the wider community.

Ka kite,

Kate Rivers
