Sport update - back to competition

Mandy Anderson —

Several sport competitions kick off this week and we are looking forward to seeing our teams in action.

The campus has become a hive of activity every morning and afternoon as teams pick up the training intensity and routines.

Wednesday hockey and Friday basketball games commences this coming week, while our cycling squad are well into their weekly rides and wind training sessions.

Registrations for Wednesday sport have now closed, however, if your daughter has missed out on signing up for something, please get in touch and we will see what we can do to get her connected to a sport.

Saturday Netball has one of the later starts with entries closing this week for Senior grades and at the beginning of July for the U19-U14 grades. Competitions begin in the Term Break for U19 – U14 teams so if you know your daughter is unavailable, please encourage her to make early contact with her coach to ensure we can find replacements or, as a last resort, default teams for games if needed.

Weekly Draws can be accessed via RangiLife – Weekly Sports Draws. Paper draws will be posted on the noticeboard and links made available on year level and Sport TEAM pages.

A reminder that at Level 1, the onus on contact tracing is with the individual. QR codes may be in place at various sporting venues and we encourage the girls to use these to keep track of where they play or train. Weekly draws and our own school training schedule also allow us a degree of traceability in the event we need to follow up.

Good hygiene remains a key at Level 1 and to this end, the following guidelines will still be in play:

- Basic hygiene measures encouraged – i.e. washing hands before and after activity, sneezing into elbows, no sharing of drink bottles, whistles, towels etc.

- Hand sanitiser will continue to be available in the gym, on the turf and netball courts. Each team kit will have hand sanitisers for use as needed.

- High contact areas in the gym/on the courts will be cleaned by teams at the end of competition games (i.e., scorebench at basketball, team benches in the gym).

- “Deep’ cleaning to be undertaken in the Gym after Friday night competition.

Finally, with the increase in activity and the colder mornings/evenings, it is important that the girls keep as well as possible as we head into winter. Getting good sleep, replenishing their bodies before and/or after training with nourishing food, having breakfast (particularly after early morning training), drinking water and wearing enough layers to keep warm when training, are all vital in helping to stay well. We also ask that any students who are unwell do not attend training or games but let their coaches know if this is the case.

As always, any questions or issues about all things sport, please make contact with one of the staff in the Sports Department. Enjoy the coming week of sport!
