SISS Junior Netball Tournament – Creating Memories!

Mandy Anderson —

Congratulations to our Year 9 and 10 Netball teams on their South Island tournament in the first week of the holidays and a massive thanks to the Coaches and Managers who supported them.

A HUGE shout out to our Year 9 team who made the TOP FOUR, finishing FOURTH in the South Island - a wonderful achievement girls and a reflection of the steady, composed netball they played all tournament. Starting the tournament strong, the team finished top of their pool after day one, then secured a last-minute win over Columba at the end of Day Two to claim a place in the Semi-final on the Wednesday morning. The girls were up again some strong opposition from St Hildas, who proved too strong for them on the day (and ultimately went on to claim the South Island title). Our team fought strongly against Nelson College for Girls in the 3rd/4th play off before going down by four goals to finish second Christchurch school and 4th overall.

The Year 10 team faced strong opposition throughout the tournament, playing great netball with close games. The girls finished their tournament with a solid win over Otago Girls on the final day and showed how much they have progressed as a team.

Two Rangi girls also umpired throughout the tournament – Lilly Okey and Harriet Fletcher. Harriet was also awarded the privilege of officiating a Year 10 semi-final and 3/4th play off – great acknowledgement of her growing ability as an Umpire.

Thanks to all the staff, girls and families who supported the teams during the tournament. The Rangi Spirit was very evident!
