Rural High Schools’ Music Festival

Christine Rowe —

150 musicians come from around Canterbury to make music

The RHSMF is held annually, and the designated host school changes each year. 2019 was the turn of Rangiora High School to host the festival, and our new and improved facilities proved to be more than adequate for the task of accommodating over 150 musicians. M block resonated with the sounds of the string orchestra, junior band and the choir, while the big band took over the hall for the day. Seven schools (including Rangiora HS) participated in a day of workshops, with a concert in the evening that was well attended and supported by our community. Our thanks go to the tutors, most of whom were provided by the FORTE team of itinerant music teachers. We also had the support of Arts Co-ordinators from other schools, parents, and supporters. Term One 2020 will see Ellesmere College host the festival.
