Principal's News
Tēnā Koutou Katoa. Naumai haere mai ki Te Kura Tuarua o Rangiora!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our Rangiora High School community. We have written this newsletter to help you and your child learn more about the opportunities offered here at Rangiora High School and keep you informed about upcoming events.
Due to the CoVid-19 Alert Level restrictions we have delayed beginning the transition programme this year to the end of Term 2. Our staff will begin visiting primary schools from late June, our Year 8 evening is scheduled for 18 August and an Orientation Day for Year 8’s will be in Term 4 on 27 October. The staff involved in these events will be happy to answer any specific questions that you may have about your child’s transition to high school. Rangiora High School students will also be available at these events to answer any questions that your daughter / son may have about our school.
At each of these events we will provide information about the learning opportunities available here at Rangiora High School. The Year 9 Connected Curriculum enables students to learn in a way that links their learning across subjects. Project based learning where students learn through real life practical projects is also part of the programme. The Rangiora High School website provides more information about our learning programmes.
Here at Rangiora High School, we believe that it is important to provide a range of opportunities to meet the needs and interests of our students. Therefore, we also offer a wealth of opportunities outside the classroom. For example:
- Year 9 camps early in Term 1 at Boyle River Lodge and locally based field trips enable your child to get to know their peers
- There are a wide range of sporting opportunities available here at Rangiora High School. These are listed in the Prospectus.
- As you will see from the Prospectus there is also a range of cultural activities on offer - kapa haka, instrumental and vocal tuition, opportunities to participate in school productions and art showcases.
- A range of clubs such as Blue Planet, Leos, SAGE Club and Space Club provide opportunities for students to follow their interests.
The relationship between home and school is crucial in supporting our young people through their learning journey. Tim Heidmann (Head of Learning Support) and Scott Wright (Deputy Principal) oversee the transition process. Please do contact either of them if you wish to discuss the supports that your child needs as they transition to high school.
We look forward to welcoming you to Rangiora High School.
Ngā mihi
