Lydiard House

RHS —

It’s been another incredibly full on term to finish the year. The seniors are busy with their exams, the Year 10’s are getting ready to join the senior school and the Year 9’s are getting ready to move out of Rakahuri into the Year 10 spaces.

The term started with the Junior and Senior House quiz competitions for the year. All our teams did well with the Juniors coming third equal and the Seniors third. These results meant we moved up to 4th place on the overall leader board.

We were able to finally run Junior Summerfest which was originally meant to be in term 1, but had to be postponed due to Covid. Touch was the sport this year. There were some close matches and we came 5th.

The final house event for the year was the Junior Speech Competition with Kobe Murdoch and Zoe McKinlay-Clark representing Lydiard. These results will also determine the overall house competition placings for 2020. Lydiard is currently sitting in 4th place. I’m really proud of everyone that represented Lydiard in the competition this year.

The senior final house assembly was held on Friday 6th November and it was a lovely way to farewell our Year 13’s. I would like to congratulate the following students for winning the major house awards:

Year 13 Top Academic: Maddie Hassall

General Excellence Year 13: Maddie Hassall

Year 12 Top Achiever: Jade Kruger

General Excellence Year 12: Brooklyn Beach

Year 11 Top Academic: Tatiana Austin

General Excellence Year 11: Holly Grundy and Toby Harden

Spirit award: Casey Morris

Outstanding service to the House: Brooklyn Beach

House Captains Shield: Jack Chapman and Emma Udy

It is with great sadness that we had to farewell one of our Year 9 students last week. Jack Wilton passed away on 11 November. He was a lively, caring and entertaining classmate who brought a smile to many faces and will be greatly missed.

I would like to thank everyone that has helped Lydiard house out this year, particularly Mr Cowey and the senior executive team. I hope you all have a lovely festive season!
