Ngata House News

Kia ora parents, caregivers and Ngata whanau,

It is hard to believe that we are in the final few days of Term 4 and that Christmas and the beginnings of a New Year will be soon upon us. As always, Term 4 has been extremely busy and we have had much to celebrate and be proud of in terms of Ngata House success.

Junior Public Speaking is one of the events that I personally really look forward to and this year’s contestants from Ngata, were of the highest caliber. Maia Maloney 10NEDK and Rose Mahan 9NSRJ put themselves forward to represent the House. All performances were extremely strong, and we received an overall placement of fourth place. Congratulations and thanks to these wonderful young leaders.

Coupled with Junior Public Speaking has been the highly sought after FilmFest Competition, and House Quiz. The 2019 FilmFest Competition is one of Ngata Houses favourite competitions, as traditionally, our students shine. This year was no exception. Winning the award for the sixth year, my thanks go to the cast and crew. Georgina Woods, Rory Trewennard, Lauchie Rennie, Gabi Rennie, Ella Spark, Tayla Mellish and Eugene Dickie to name a few. All were integral to ‘Coldcase” overall success. To retain the FilmFest title is a great thrill, and I am really proud of their continued effort.

Lastly, it is important that I acknowledge and farewell our wonderful Year 13 Class of 2019, with whom both Mr Berg and I have enjoyed working. As discussed in our final assembly, five years has flown by and it does not seem that long ago that they were in Year 9. I have every confidence that this fine group of young people will go from here to live extraordinary lives, and as already discussed with them at their assembly, it is important for each and every one to remember that they are strong, articulate and are capable of achieving all that they hope. We wish them all well and have every faith that they never forget our mantra of ‘Never Give up Aspiring to Achieve,’ for it will serve them well.

Lastly, I would like to extend warm wishes to all of you, our Ngata whanau. I hope that Christmas and New Year is one of peace, prosperity and good health within your household. It is my great pleasure to work with and for you, and I look forward to working with you in 2020 and beyond.
