Message from the Principal

RHS —

Tēnā koutou katoa

2021 has been a year where we as a school, as New Zealanders and as members of our global community have had to adjust to a ‘new normal’ - to living with Covid-19. While this is not what we hoped for, as a community, we have risen to the challenge.

This end of year has been very different to the end of year we are used to - we have had to make decisions about whether events such as prizegiving could go ahead depending on the requirements of the Covid-19 Alert Levels or Traffic Light system at the time. While we understand the disappointment of members of our community - when events have been cancelled, delayed or when entry has been restricted, we all acknowledge that we are lucky to live here in North Canterbury where we have missed the worst of the impact of Covid-19 lockdowns.

Despite the restrictions of Alert Level 2 we are pleased that our young people have had the opportunity to participate, to excel and to lead. NCEA examinations, while delayed, have gone ahead. Year 9 and 10 have enjoyed the new Modules developed in response to student voice.

As we head to the end of the school year, on behalf of the student body I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Head Students, the House Executives and all of our School Leaders for their hard work and the leadership they have shown this year. In particular, I would like to thank our 2021 Head Students, Ella, Boston, Callum, Freya, Lachie and Ruby for all their hard work, leadership and service.

To those students leaving Rangiora High School, on behalf of our kura’s students and staff, I wish you all the best. We hope that wherever you go, that a little bit of Rangiora High School will be with you always.

On behalf of the School Board and the staff I would like to thank most sincerely all the families and whānau who have supported and been part of our Rangiora High School community this year, particularly those families whose involvement with the School finishes this year.

As this newsletter goes to print we are busy preparing for 2022. We look forward to welcoming students, their families and whānau next year. We will send a further newsletter in late January 2022 and continue to provide up-to-date information on our website here.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
