Rangiora High School Board of Trustees Community Consultation
Thank you to the 156 people who responded to our community consultation survey last year. The majority of people responding stating that they believed that their views are heard by the Board and staff.
We appreciated people’s willingness to engage with the survey and your constructive comments. The Board are all looking forward to working with you on next steps.
A summary of the responses can be found below:
Teaching and Learning
Respondents agree that Rangiora High School should build on learner strengths so they can progress and achieve.
Respondents indicated that the top five skills that young people would need in the future as global citizens were:
Managing Self
Wellbeing
Literacy
Numeracy
Resilience
Respondents indicated that as a school we should focus on
further developing the connection to North Canterbury in our learning programmes
further developing the competencies for the workplace and as future global citizens
developing partnerships and links to offer rural based programmes and vocational pathways
developing work experience programmes, pre apprenticeship training
further developing careers education year 9 -13.
Student Wellbeing
The survey responses showed that Rangiora High School is putting learners at the centre.
That student wellbeing is important to us as a school.
In particular respondents indicated that:
There are good communication practices in place
The school values are explicit
That the school should continue to focus on:
creating a positive and safe learning environment through programmes such as the Positive Behaviour for Learning programme
Improving its practice to empower students when faced with issues such as bullying
Further developing student wellbeing programmes
Extra Curricular
Respondents indicated that the following were key areas were focus areas for us as a school
Leadership
Motivational Speakers
School Production
Service
Sports
It is heartening to see that these are areas on which we too want to focus. Some next steps from the survey data include:
developing a wider range of opportunities in the Arts for example, an orchestra
developing student leadership in a wider range of sports' opportunities
acknowledging success in all arts, leadership and sports
developing links in the Rangiora School community to create a pool of coaches and managers
Congratulations to the ten lucky survey respondents who each won a $50 uniform voucher. Winners have been notified.
