Rutherford House News

Term 1 is always a busy one. Leading the House this year we have a range of capable students in our Student Executive team. We’ve changed our leadership model this year to allow Year 12’s to join the Exec and it’s been great having them on board. I went for a three Year 13 and three Year 12 split. Our Exec consists of House Captain Jonty Howard [Year 13], Deputy House Captain Lily Keating [Year 13], Cameron Salton [Year 13], Rose Hussey [Year 12], Millie Wright [Year 12] and Suliasi Uhatafe [Year 12]. We’ll be adding juniors from the start of the second term.

It’s been great having the school “back to normal” after two years of COVID disruptions. There have been so many highlights, with activities such as Sports Day and Year 9 camp finally being back on our Term 1 agenda.

Year 9 camp is always so much fun. The biggest benefit of the camps has to be in the relationships that are made with the students over the three days and seeing the growth of our Peer Support student leaders over the three days. I say three days, but due to an accident on the road, we ended up having to stay an extra few hours and not returning to school until 9pm. The Year 9’s took this in their stride but were certainly glad to get back. I’d like to thank our Peer Support leaders for giving 100% effort on the camp and for staying positive throughout our time away.

Here’s what Lily Keating, our Deputy House Captain, had to say about Term 1:

“Term one has been awesome, we had the Year 9 camp in Boyle River, Sports Day where Rutherford put on their best blue costumes and the Seniors won both 4x100 relays. Rutherford was also seen out on the courts battling hard in Senior and Junior SummerFest, all of these events showed a great display of the Rutherford House spirit and what we are capable of this year! Looking forward to seeing what we have in store for the rest of the year”. - Lily Keating

We started the year off in 6th place after coming last on Sports day. Sadly, our goal of a fifth Sports Day title was not to be. We’ve jokingly said that this year will have to be the come back story of a lifetime. Certainly, by the time of writing this article we’d moved up to 4th after performing well in the SummerFest competitions, and now we’re looking forward to aiming for higher honours in Term 2.

Thanks to our parents for your support this term over things like uniform and phoning in absences. As we move into the colder months - a reminder that notes for non-regulation items can be arranged via the Pastoral team. Hoodies, however, are not a uniform item.
