PB4L – Bringing our Values to Life

RHS —

It has been a big term in PB4L. We have begun teaching our three values of Whakautea – Respect, Tohaina – Contribute and Wawatahia – Contribute. Every week form teachers deliver a PB4L lesson that is consistent across the school during one of the form class time slots. In Term 2 we have focused on our value of Whakautea - Respect.

It has been impressive to see the number of students who are being recognised for displaying our lighthouse values. At the middle of June there had been 11,134 recognitions awarded to students and this in turn has lead to ‘celebration assemblies’.

In June we merged our data entry system from 2018 with this system, and awarded our Lighthouse Badges at Celebration Assemblies in Term 2. We have had 14 students gain their silver status this year and 89 attain their bronze status.

This means that 11,134 times a staff member has taken the time to note the positive behaviour of a student. If students have registered with their phone number, the student will have received a text noting this recognition. Additionally, once a student receives three recognitions, an automatic email is sent home alerting parents of this. This school/home connection is a key part of making PB4L work across the school community.

We are also in the process of updating our signage around the school to reflect our values. See below examples of some of our new signage.
