Ngata House News

Spring is upon us and at the time of writing this Newsletter, we are heading into Week 10 of Term 3, which is just astounding! This term has been one of importance in regards to planning, choice and preparation. Many of our Year 13 cohort have been preparing for their transition to tertiary study with Scholarship and Hall of Residence Applications, which are now complete and they are in the final process of asking their teachers to give testimonies for their Leaver Profiles. This time of year for this group of students, in particular, is a very busy, exciting and often daunting time, with huge change ahead. Despite the uncertainty of what lies before them in 2021, it gives me great pride to see our Senior Students rising to the challenge of NCEA, understanding that time is precious; having had School Examination Week in Week 8 and with NCEA Externals in November imminent, there is little time for complacency, which most understand.

In terms of Inter-House Competitions, this term has seen a variety of fantastic competitions and activities in which to get involved with. Our inaugural and highly anticipated House Choir Competition was held on Friday 14 August, and was fantastic. Despite best efforts in what is, a highly competitive performance space, we placed sixth for this event. I would like to thank our wonderful House Captain, Lauren Johnson 13NALC for her work as choir leader and also Tayla Mellish 11NEDK for her invaluable support and leadership with our waiata. Both students are exceptional young people and very capable leaders in their own right.

The Senior Winterfest Competition finished last week and saw Ngata place third on the leaderboard, which was a massive boost for us. The competition was a brilliant spectacle, as mixed teams battled on the netball courts. I would like to thank all of the players involved and give a special ‘shout out’ to Isla de Roo 13NALC and Jake Pascoe 12NCFC who really pushed themselves during this competition, attending all matches and demonstrating great sportsmanship; well done and thank you.

Mr Berg and I are very privileged to be surrounded by such wonderful students, parents, caregivers and whānau, and we are always at hand to support you in any matter. With a very busy period ahead, 2020 continues to provide us with elements of uncertainty and areas of concern. Mr Berg and I are always here to help you. If you require any support with your child, please do not hesitate in making contact with us. ‘Team Green’ wishes you well in the hope that you all enjoy your end of term break.
