Japanese Konnichiwa Senior High School Speech Competition

Congratulations to Josh Campbell in Year 12. Josh won the Japanese Konnichiwa Senior High School Speech Competition for the Canterbury Region open to Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 students.

The title of his speech was “The difference between how Japanese and New Zealanders think”. The judges commented on his native like pronunciation of Japanese, high level of grammar use and the depth of the concepts he was able to portray in Japanese. This allows Josh to go into the National competition against other non-native Japanese speakers from different regions around New Zealand and potentially onto the Oceania competition if he wins that.

The second runner up was Georgia Smith studying Year13 Japanese at Rangiora High School. Her speech was titled “The difference between NZ  and Japanese lifestyles”.  Renee Woodward in Year 12 also entered the competition and presented a speech entitled, “My experience of studying Japanese and Japanese culture”.

This was an amazing achievement for Rangiora High School and the students' passion for studying Japanese and the culture was felt during this speech competition. Well done to Josh, Georgia and Renee.
