RHS —

A round-up of Sports News at RHS

Basketball

We have 14 teams entered into the School Sport Canterbury Friday night Competition and are now 4 weeks into competition. Our Senior A Girls' and Boys' teams have started their respective Whelan and Thomson Trophy competition with games being played at the new Mainpower Stadium for our home games. Our U15 and U17 Boys play in the Saturday CBA competition again other school and club teams.

Cross Country

The Secondary School Cross Country Championships was held on Thursday 2 June at Ascot Golf Course in New Brighton. Rangiora High School was very well represented with a total of 22 students attending, including 18 from Lighthouse. Leo Neale paced himself well in the Year 9 boys and Noah Roddis ran a superb race finishing strong in the U16 boys. In the senior boys U19 Harry Witt ran a great race including a sprint finish and Becky Blay also ran a solid race picking off a several girls in the final lap. In the Para-Girls Samantha Shepherd took out the win and in the Para-Boys Blake Thompson took the win with Troy Washington very close behind in second place.

Football

Junior Boys are showing great skills and continue to dominate in their Div 3 games and will move up a grade from next week for the remainder of the competition.

The Girls' 1st XI have moved into the Mainland competition this season have been playing a strong game and continue to improve each week, while the Boys' 1st XI are also playing well this season and showing great teamwork on the field.

Blazers & sports ties were presented to the Boys & Girls 1st XI teams on Friday 3 June in recognition of their selection into the team and playing in the top grade.

Hockey

The hockey boys have started the season strong with some good wins. The girls are also playing well so far this season.

Netball

The season has started well and we have a total of 13 teams. Thank you to all who are supporting our teams as Coach or Manager. On 1 June our Senior A had their blazer presentation which was once again supported by our amazing sponsor Jennian Homes.

I am enjoying my new role as the RHS Jennian Homes Netball Co-ordinator and I am looking forward to watching all the students continuing developing their skills and confidence as players and umpires.

Road Race

Harry Witt & Simone Bisschoff both represented Rangiora High School at the Canterbury Secondary School road race with Harry finishing a very respectable 9th in the Senior U19 grade.

Swimming

14 students in our swim team competed at the Canterbury Secondary Schools swimming championships at Jellie Park pool during the first week of term 2 with some fantastic results including several podiums & personal bests. Well done everyone!

1st - Lara Marsh - Girls' 16-18 - 50 Freestyle

2nd - Jorja Stott - Girls' 15 - 50 Butterfly

2nd - Ryan Beardsmore - Boys' 14 - 50m Freestyle

Squash

It was great to have student Aidan Haverkort representing Rangiora High School at the Secondary School Squash Championships on 23 May.

Aidan took part in the individual competition and played as 4th Seed, won his first game 3-0, won his second game 3-2 and lost the final 1-3 coming 2nd in the Boys' C division. We were super proud, well done Aidan.

A reminder to all students travelling to sport venues by bus & van that you must wear your mask. This also includes shared rides in private vehicles to/from games. Help protect yourself, your coach & your team mates.
