For parents new to the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) information can be found in a number of places:The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website - here.

NZQA has also developed a very user-friendly APP called NCEA Guide that parents and whānau can download from the APP store.

It comes in a range of languages and is designed to assist parents and whānau with

- How NCEA works

- How to help your child

- What employers need to know

At the Academic Achievement Interviews in Term 1, there will be an opportunity to attend a brief presentation around NCEA. These will be advertised on the school website when interview bookings are being made.

Support for NCEA, literacy and numeracy - what to do?

Some students may have missed out on achieving Levels 1, 2, or 3 due to not meeting the Literacy or Numeracy requirements. In many cases, this can be rectified over the course of Term 1.

Students need to ensure that they are entered in courses that will enable them to achieve University Entrance (UE) Literacy by the end of Year 13.

Some students will achieve UE Literacy in Yr 12, but many will not achieve this until Yr 13. Students will not be admitted to a tertiary institution if they do not have UE Literacy.

If your child is unsure of what they need, in the first instance they should their Dean who will work with them to ensure that they are in the courses they need to be in.
