CANOE POLO
Our two teams made both their finals in the Term One competition.
Our B Team went on to win the Novice grade going undefeated through the season. They had a 5-3 win against Avonside in the final with Alex Johnson scoring four long range goals whilst Adam Wake capsized in the process of scoring the fifth. All players performed well throughout the season. Metin Van der Velden, Isaac Wilkinson, Harry Johnstone and Holly Grundy were the other players in the final that afternoon.
Our A Team lost their final 4-3 against a Combined School’s team, losing in an extra time golden goal situation. Logan Connor, Sam Grigg and Matthew Knowles were our goal scorers and Harry Johnstone saved numerous shots in goal. Aimee Planner, Holly and Alex made up the rest of the team. All played well and the team beat every other school during the season, with the exception of the Combined team.
The students from both teams are a great bunch of people and fully deserved the successes they- achieved this season..

DRAGON BOATING
This term we had 37 students training twice a week on the Kaiapoi River, for 5 weeks leading up to Canterbury Secondary Schools' Championships in early March where we had three teams compete (2 girls teams and 1 mixed team). A selected team continued to train for a further 2 weeks before attending the South Island Secondary Schools' Championships where they came second to Marian College in all three events. A massive thank you to Mrs Hanson for her wonderful support both at training and on regatta day and to coaches Rick Smith and Marie Childs. Students looking to join dragon boating in Term 1 2022 should see the sports' office in Term 4 this year.

FUTSAL
Girls' Futsal Nationals
Coming off the back of winning the last national tournament in 2019, the girls trained hard over summer, expertly coached by Pam Fraser, in preparation for the NZSS Futsal Championships at ASB Sports Centre in Wellington on 22/23 March.
The team had a convincing win in their first game against Horowhenua College, scoring 8-0. They weren’t so lucky for their second and final pool game, losing 2-1 to Rototuna High School, the team who would go on to come second in the tournament. Unfortunately, day one then ended with a game against the team who would go on to win the tournament, Wellington East. It was another disappointing loss for the team, managing to net 1 goal and concede 3.
The girls did not let their losses dampen their spirits, however, and showed up for day two looking for a top 16 placing. The first game did not go their way, with a 3-0 loss to Baradene College, but they finished the tournament on a high - where some fancy footwork and clever combinations saw them win 4-1 against Palmerston North Girls’ High School. Every player proved herself to be a fantastic ambassador for Rangiora High School, and humble sportswoman throughout the tournament.
Finishing 13th out of 24 teams, the girls went home with their heads held high and a fire in their bellies to rebuild the team in preparation for the 2022 season. We say a sad goodbye to two Year 13 players, Maddy George and Rahera Peita-Kingi, and wish them all the best for life after high school.
Thanks to Pam Fraser and Elise Brambley for supporting the girls on this trip.
Boys' Futsal Nationals
The Rangiora High School Senior Boys' Futsal Team made their debut at the New Zealand National Secondary Championships held in Wellington March 23 - 26.
Throughout the tournament the team encountered some very strong opposition and learnt a great deal about the finer points of this challenging sport. Although results didn’t go our way, I can say with some assurance that our boys succeeded in representing the values of our school.
We look forward to the 2022 season and another opportunity to participate in this event.
Thank you to Mario Williams and Keith Anderson for supporting the boys on this trip.

POLO TOURNAMENT
Polo Tournament – 28 March
The polo team had another successful term with eight students attending regular training sessions at Waireka Polo Farm, including four students who played for the first time this year. Toby Orr also took part in additional training sessions at Blue Springs Polo School. All the students have made huge improvements in their polo riding, game tactics and stick and ball skills, which has been awesome to see.
A number of our students competed in the South Island SUPA Interschools tournaments on Sunday 28th February and Sunday 28th March. At the first tournament, our Rangiora team of Rebecca Barnett, Jess Orr, Annika Ettema and Ella O'Connor played really well, conceding in only one of their games and narrowly missing out on the Christchurch Combined team. At the second tournament, Annika was unable to play and Maggie took her place at her first ever tournament, doing a great job, having only had a handful of lessons. The girls played fantastically, scoring seven goals and conceding none across their three games, comfortably winning the D grade and impressing many onlookers who commented on their impressive teamwork, riding and ball skills. Our team captain Rebecca Barnett was awarded Most Valuable Player for the grade - well done Becca!
Toby played in the A grade as part of a Combined Christchurch team at both tournaments, which was a big step up for him. He acquitted himself very well, with his team beating Medbury but narrowly missing out to Christ’s College and St Andrew’s College, . He improved greatly from the first tournament to the second tournament, and we look forward to seeing him play in his final schools' tournament in November.

TENNIS
Maddison and Tayla Smart won the Year 11 Doubles title at the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Tennis Championships, held over two days in February at Wilding Park, Christchurch. Well done girls.
Three teams were entered in the Wednesday Interschool Tennis competition. Our teams played at Wilding Park each week and performed extremely well. The premier girls had some hard games but they played well against some highly ranked players. The junior girls’ team won their grade convincingly and the junior boys’ team were first equal in their round robin competition. Thanks to the parents for their support and encouragement.
We look forward to competing again in Term 4.
TOUCH
Super Touch
The Super Touch Mixed team played in the SISS Touch Tournament in the Mixed Grade. They made the final against a fine Rolleston College team and were just beaten 6-5 to gain 2nd place. A fine effort with some new players just added to the team. Well done to all and thanks to the coaches, parents and supporters. We will be sending a team to Nationals in December and trials will be held in September to select the team that will attend.
Junior Touch
We had our Junior Boys' and Girls' team play in the SSC competition in Term 1. They played really well in Division 2 and the boys came 3rd while the girls came 4th. Well done. Thanks to the teachers who helped with these teams.
VOLLEYBALL
This season we had 4 teams entered in the Senior Schools' Sport Canterbury competitions.
Our Senior A Girls were in the Premier Grade and started out 18th out of 23 teams and ended the season 8th which qualified them for the Premier A Grade at the Canterbury Championships where they came 8th overall. In the SSC Competition they actually came 3rd overall as the grade was played in a ladder system, so well done girls.
The girls attended the South Island Secondary Schools' Tournament, Canterbury Champs and Satellite Tournament where they came 3rd, 9th and 4th respectively.
The team is working hard throughout the Winter playing in the Christchurch Club competition as the team that will be selected for next season will be attending NZSS Nationals in Palmerston North in 2022. Thanks to Chris Phillips, Stella Porter and Julia Malcolm for supporting the team this season.
Our Senior B girls are a very strong team and will be vying for spots in the Senior A in Term 4. They came 3= in their division. They attended the SI Tournament and came 15th overall. Thanks to Paris Karaka and Ilana Moir for coaching this season.
Senior Green girls had a great season as well, coming 2nd = and enjoyed their season with some new players joining. They attended the SI Tournament and learnt a lot from this experience coming 18th overall. Thanks to Millie Jeffcott-Moore, Chan Mason-Cope and Charlotte Demler for looking after the team this season.
Senior Gold girls had lots of fun and had some really close games and a very exciting win. Every game they were learning so much and their coaches Ella Couch, Abbie Walls and Julia Leatham were outstanding with their support, dedication and excitement. Thanks to Alison Cleary who supported this team.
Some of our Senior Girls also took our junior students for skills, drills and games on Mondays which was a huge success and we had over 50 students each week keen to learn the game of volleyball. Thanks girls you were amazing and we look forward to doing it again in Term 1 next year.
Trials for volleyball in Term 4 will be held near the end of Term 3, please keep an eye on the school notices for information. Those who do not make a team, we will hold the skills, drills and games sessions again.
Thanks to all the coaches, managers, referees, students, teachers and parents who helped with volleyball this season.
