Netball Success

Bridgitt Robinson —

Our Senior A Netball Team has enjoyed a successful season this year

Senior A

The team competed in the recent North Canterbury Premier Netball final against Kaiapoi Club winning the grade 53-37 on the 29 August then headed to the South Island Secondary Schools' Netball Tournament in Dunedin from 3 - 6th  September. They competed in The A Grade Competition of 32 top South Island Secondary Schools. The team's third game was against St Hilda's Collegiate, last year's South Island champions. It was a great boost of confidence when the Rangiora HS beat them 39-30. The team won their first 5 games to make the quarter finals against Villa Maria. This game was a fantastic display of netball which RHS lost by only 6 goals (39 -33). with Villa going on to win the tournament. RHS then went on to play for top five which would ensure a spot to play at Nationals. The game was played against Columba College and was drawn at full time. This meant going into overtime with the first team to be ahead by 2 goals winning. It was a nail- biting finish which unfortunately Rangiora lost. The final game of the tournament was in the play off for 7th/8th against St Andrew's College which Rangiora won, 36-33, to finish in a very respectable 7th place and top Co-Ed School in the South Island. This is an amazing achievement. The team is coached by Frances Granger, assisted by Kaylee Dawson and managed by Bridgitt Robinson.

Laura Mann and Sara Cottam were selected into the Talented Players South Island Secondary Schools' Team. Congratulation girls.

South Island Secondary Schools' Junior Netball Tournament

Our Junior A netball teams attended the Junior Netball tournament in the July holidays. The girls had a fantastic tournament with the Y10A finishing 5th and the Year 9A coming 10th.

Our Year 10A team went unbeaten on Day 1 to advance to the top 16. They had some tough games on Day 2 but made it to the 5-8th playoff. An exciting overtime win against Otago Girls' High on the final day, secured them 5th place.

Our Year 9A team played some great netball throughout the tournament to book a place in the 9/10th playoff. It was a close battle but unfortunately it did not go their way.

Outstanding results from both our teams.
