Level 1 Geography - Semester 1 Rakahuri field-trip

Our Level 1 Geographers had a great day out on the Rakahuri River on Friday 17 March where we studied fluvial processes while collecting data for our first NCEA internal assessment. The weather was fantastic and we had a fun time engaging with a local braided river environment to understand how different taiao (environments) operate. It was a wonderful experience for our ākonga (students) to be able to view and understand such a unique environment, resulting in some fantastic data for our first internal of the year based around Geographic Research. We did manage to prove our research aim - does sediment change from the Ashley Gorge to the mouth of the Rakahuri River? Many rocks were thrown, many photos were taken, there were a few wet feet, and the odd sandfly bite, but it all added to the experience.
