Sheppard House News

Sheppard House has had a great Term 2, with some outstanding participation from our students in senior and junior winterfest. In fact we were able to come away with an overall win in junior winterfest. But we’re even more excited for the events that are coming up in Term 3, the biggest one being The Ronald McDonald Fair. Sheppard House is always ready to give everything we’ve got, and we hope to really show that in Term 3. So, to all the students and caregivers we hope you have a great holiday and we can’t wait to see you when you get back.

During the last few weeks, each of the houses went all out for Junior Winterfest. After putting together a strong team, Sheppard was ready to take the courts. Having strong players in each area, we hoped that victory was in the bag. We went on to win all our games, apart from one which we drew due to not having the right amount of players. In the end, Sheppard came out victorious . It was a great bonding experience and we look forward to next year’s Junior Winterfest and the challenges it will hold.

Our annual fair is coming up in the third week of next term. This is something that is very much anticipated throughout the year. Every form class has a stall, and they get to come up with an idea of what to sell; this ranges from Cotton Candy to a Chocolate Wheel. All proceeds go towards Ronald McDonald House, which is our house charity. This year we are joining forces with our sister house Hillary and will be doing a joint “Mega Fair”. Our Execs have been hard at work planning this awesome event and are really excited to see our plans come to fruition.

On Tuesday 18 June the Sheppard Senior Exec travelled into Ronald McDonald House in Christchurch for a visit. Some of our students and staff kindly donated food items that we took with us to help stock up their pantry. On arrival we met the amazing team and volunteers who work and give up their time to keep the house running. One of the staff took us on a tour of the house so that we could really get a feel for what it's like for the families who stay there and call it home. The Ronald McDonald House is an incredible place filled with so much love and volunteering is what keeps the house running. They were so appreciative of our donation and we plan to keep donating to this amazing charity with the fair coming up early in Term 3.

Starting in Week 2 and stretching all the way to Week 4, Sheppard seniors were given the chance to participate in Senior Winterfest 2019. Our team faced many challenges and some very worthy competitors. We didn’t avieve the results that we wanted but we got something more, we helped some of our seniors step out of their comfort zone and push themselves to be part of something that benefits our house. Our team was always laughing and smiling on and off the court and created a great bond. For the year 13’s who were a part of their last ever Senior Winterfest this will be something that will be missed considerably. We would like to thank those who were willing to give up their time and participated.
