Ngata House News

Kia ora whānau,

Well here we are at the end of Term 2, and what a busy term it has been. From Senior and Junior Summerfest competitions to Senior Student Achievement Day, every week sees new and exciting opportunities for all. We have celebrated the Year 13 Ball, and preparation is underway for the Year 12 Semi Formal. At the time of writing this newsletter, Junior Student Achievement Day is yet to happen, and I am looking forward to meeting with those who attend.

Moving forwards in regards to our academic focus, Term 3 is one of careful choices. I urge both junior and senior students to consider their options for the coming months. For our Year 13 cohort, Term 3 is one of preparation and consideration. Choices of transitional steps to higher education, gap year or workplace possibilities are imminent and it is important that all decisions are carefully considered and well planned. Junior and senior students alike, must consider next steps in terms of subject options and potential career pathways, which for many is a difficult process. Please remember that both Mr Berg and I are here to support both you and your child in the options process. If you need any advice or assistance with any aspect of your child’s progress, please make school contact with us at any time.

As Head of House, one of my favourite things is to acknowledge the achievements of our students and to celebrate this with them. The following article is written by Georgina Woods after our recent meeting with Westpac Rescue Helicopter; our newly chosen House charity.

”As the House Captains of Ngata House 2019, Jenna and I along with Mrs Wilkins had the privilege of meeting our contact person from Westpac Helicopter Rescue, Rachael McNutt. As a charity they rely heavily on the community for donations to keep things up and running. As you can imagine, it's not cheap running a helicopter along with all the expensive equipment used. To keep the crews and helicopters ready to respond when needed is around $40 million a year. We decided to approach this charity because they can assist anyone at any given time that needs the help. The staff, crew and paramedics work hard to save the lives of many men and women each year. So Ngata House is very excited to announce its new charity as Westpac Rescue Helicopters! We will have events occurring later on in the year to raise money for the charity which will be spoken about in more detail  in future assemblies. Change is here and the executive team and I are buzzing to support this deserving charity. Just think every time they fly overhead they are saving someone’s life! Ngā Mihi Nui.”

Westpac Rescue Helicopter Appeal is a charity close to all of our hearts, and I know that we will all enjoy raising koha for the outstanding work that they do for us all.

Ngā mihi
