Kapa Haka

RHSSeptember 18, 2023

Kapa Haka among our ākonga has grown in strength and understanding in recent times.

The junior modules provide a platform to know the key features while the senior programme goes in depth as to how the use of elements enhance disciplines such as haka and waiata. The practical side is an opportunity to grow in confidence through performance. It has been amazing to see leaders rise to the occasion throughout the module and bring their prior learning to the kapa.

Our performances this term have included some of our local pre schools, Te Matakura o Ruataniwha, whānau hui and our recent stand at Waitaha Regional Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Competition. The latter performance showed just how much growth had taken place in such a short period of time. This was due to being committed to being the best we could be and giving the respect that this taonga of haka deserves.
