Show Case - Kapahaka by RHS
RHS — September 4, 2023
Term 3 has been a busy term for our performing arts students. Early in the term Rangiora High School once again held a Showcase.
It was fantastic to see many students perform to a full house with various acts including dance, drama, singing, bands and kapa haka. There was also an opportunity to view many students’ art work and wearable arts prior to the show as Te Tauraka was transformed into a gallery with our students also playing music in this space.
The very same week, the School wide Kapa Haka group visited 3 of our local primary schools to perform and workshop with their students. It was so neat to see our students collaborating and sharing knowledge at Ashgrove Primary School, Rakahuri Ashley and Sefton School.
On the Saturday of this week, our very talented theatrefest group entered into the Canterbury wide competition and performed very well to a live audience.
In August, we had 16 students represent Rangiora High School at the Dance NZ Made interschools Dance Competition. Kallani Waghorn and Jasmine Olliver placed second in the Duo/Trio open grade and our Hip Hop troupe were exceptional on the second night of competition but were unplaced.
To round out the term, Rangiora High School will host the annual Battle of the Bands school wide competition and our Kapa Haka group will perform at the Waitaha Secondary Schools Kapa haka competition on Saturday 16th September.
Many thanks to all of the staff and whānau who help make it possible for our students to compete and/or represent RHS in the Creative Arts. I would also like to make a special mention to both Marlene Vorster, Bella Goodsir and the creative arts team who work hard to produce the events for our school and wider community. We now look ahead to the annual RHS colours award ceremony where we will celebrate and acknowledge our talented performing artists.
