Term 3 has been a real nail-biter for Hillary House. Choir and Fimfest have been held and Public Speaking is to come in the last week, the House Cup is still up for grabs and it’s too close to call at this stage. By the time you read this, Public Speaking will have been run and everything could change.
It’s been an exciting term with lots of fabulous singing and dancing. Choir practises ran for five weeks and a huge thanks to those awesome students who demonstrated tohaina in committing to the cause. Our fabulous group sang the Wham classic “Wake Me Up Before You Go GO” and “Tutira Mai Nga Iwi.” We were enthusiastic, coordinated, tuneful and fifth in the final standings. We had a huge amount of fun, though and enjoyed the lunch reward.
We have farewelled our wonderful Dean, Elise Bramley and welcomed Amy Lahey to the role. Amy is an experienced English teacher with lots of experience in pastoral care and has already made a lot of connections in the House. Her work around course selection has already shown how capable she is in this role!
Term three has been long, dark and wintery but with the weather warming up and the derived grades done and dusted, holidays are just around the corner.
Hopefully, next term, seniors will be focusing on exams, and juniors working on final assessments as the year is drawing rapidly to a close. One last push before the summit is reached. It has been a tough year with some steep climbs but with fingers crossed Hillary House will “knock the bastard off" win the house cup and finish 2023 the way we started it, with huge house spirit and enthusiasm.
