In the company of an Olympian

RHS —

Sports' captains Millie Couch, Georgia Gold and Cole Morgan interviewed Gabi Rennie during her Olympic campaign

Our school was very proud to have ex-student, Gabi Rennie, playing Football for the White Ferns at the Olympics in Japan. Gabi was Deputy Head Girl here in 2019 and is now studying and playing football as a forward for Indiana University.

Our three Sports' captains hooked up a live interview with her during her downtime and asked her about the experience, leading up to the games and that exciting goal! There was a fair bit of laughing coming out of the meeting room and you could sense that Georgia, Millie and Cole were excited to be talking to someone playing at the peak of their sport, and someone who was just like them.

In an unusual coincidence Gabi's brother, Liam, was also at the Games working as a Newshub camera operator and able to cheer her on in a suitably restrained manner! Liam was at the game where Gabi scored her first international goal on debut against Australia in the closing minutes.

Casey Higby, another ex-student, was also working in the media at the games as a One News camera operator.

These three students are a great example of hard work, enthusiasm and grit getting you to Olympic heights.
