Waitangi day at RBS & Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Coastal Park Learning Experience

Manaia Stedman and Alandria Hepi —

Ngā Rākau e Rua Year 7’s as Kaitiaki in Partnership with Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Coastal park programme. Kaitiakitanga and Hauora are two of our school values that this learning experience aligns well to. Our tamariki have begun an environmental programme on Wednesday’s with Mikaela Woods of the Tūhaitara Coastal Park team. These are some of the photo’s and learnings from their first outing.

Te Tūhaitara Coastal Trust

1# Where it is located? It’s located on a piece of land near Woodend Beach.

2# What it is? We are helping the native animals and plants regrow and thrive after that fire. We are helping to restore the land by making room for new natives and insects which help the wetlands heal.

3# When we are doing it?We are going every Wednesday.

4# Why are we doing this? We are doing this to help retrieve our fallen native plants and wildlife back into the area.

5# Who we are doing it with? We are working with the Tūhaitara Coastal Trust team who are helping us with planning and using their knowledge to establish our biota-node.

6# How? With the help of our Year 7’s from Ngā Rākau e Rua and the staff at Te Tūhaitara we can make that be our priority.

Waitangi day at RBS

It was another hot day for the second year of running this event. The community vibe was felt amongst staff and whānau who attended this day.

Couple of the two new additions to celebrating were very popular. Thanks to Whaea Kirsty who provided the pony rides and the Dunk tank was also in great use to help cool down.

Grateful to school staff who attended and our sponsor list.

New World, Pak n save, Coffee Culture, Gelato shop, Rangiora Sports shop and Karen Ward (real estate agent for Harcourts).
