Autumn Leaves in Tui 3

Alison Bjork —

The children in Tui 3 have created fabulous pictures using the leaves they collected from the school grounds a couple of weeks ago.

One fine afternoon, Tui 3 went on a walk around the school, to discover and experience the signs of Autumn.  They were delighted to collect a whole range of leaves that were covering the ground.  We brought our beautiful finds back to the classroom where we discussed the different sizes, shapes and colours of the leaves.  After this, the leaves were laid inside layers of newspaper.  The newspapers were weighted down with a pile of magazines, and much to everyone's dismay, had to be left alone for at least a week!

Tui 3 were quite excited to discover what lay inside the newspapers when the day came for the unveiling, and were surprised to see their leaves were now flat, but still pliable and still colourful.

As can be seen from the photos, the children created their own piece of gorgeous leaf art, which they could then take home and share with their families.

Well done, Tui 3!
