RBS Food and Nutrition Policy

Shane Buckner —

Reminder of the school Food and Nutrition Policy

At Rangiora Borough School, we promote healthy food and nutrition to our students. Educating students about nutrition and encouraging healthy active learning contributes to their personal success and wellbeing, and to a healthier community for everyone. We communicate our nutrition messages to the wider school community clearly and consistently in various ways.

At Rangiora Borough School, we:

  • we are a water only school, meaning we provide and promote water and plain milk only on school grounds and at school related events

  • we do not promote the use of confectionery as learning behaviour rewards in the classroom

  • we encourage students to have a piece of fruit or vegetable everyday

  • encourage staff to model healthy food and drink choices

  • provide nutrition messages and food that acknowledges the diversity of our community and considers those with special dietary needs (e.g. allergies and intolerances, and religious, cultural, and ethical food requirements)

  • encourage students taking part in physical activity to drink water for hydration and to refuel with healthy snacks.

Students are required to sit and eat their lunch for 15 minutes at the start of lunchtime.
