Boys are owning the Kitchen!

Jasmine Treacy —

Gordon Ramsay, Anthony Bourdain, Jamie Oliver.... to name a few male chefs we might know, but watch our for Maxx, Riley, Tor and Henry. They are coming up close behind!!!

These Year eight boys attended the Easter Cooking Challenge held at Te Matauru after school today. Five local schools attended the event.

Before the day they researched a four course meal, thought about methods of creative displays for Easter and most importantly they wanted it to be tasty. A mystery box was also added as a challenge; requiring them to follow a recipe precisely and create a tasty Easter sweet dish.

Watching them was stressful as the other teams (of girls) appeared organised and very aware of cleanliness!! But what I saw was a group of four young men banding together to create a high quality, very edible meal.

The judges loved their tasty food and they noticed how well the boys communicated and commented on how they worked together without conflict. These boys were creating and changing elements as they developed their meal and made a solid and successful team.

I was proud to support them and loved seeing their happy faces when they discovered they were one point away from being the winners. Nothing wrong with being second when your food is delicious!

Congrats boys, lunch is on you!!!
