Introducing terrific Tui 5

Michelle Busch —

Make no mistake, our New Entrants are our youngest and newest students at R.B.S., however they are not to be underestimated. Tui 5 are delightful learners who love to engage fully in daily lessons with enthusiasm, creativity and wonder.

Beginning in June 2022, our Tui 5 class comprised of only two students and was my first New Entrants's full time class. Now we have grown to 14, and will soon reach 18 in Term 4. That is, 9 boys and 9 girls, and I am loving getting to know and bring out the best in each and every one of them.

New Entrants are tasked with many new challenges that I like to view as opportunities, such as making friends, learning sounds, exploring numbers and patterns, counting, forming letters, creating unique art, growing pea plants from seeds, sharing and problem solving, working on coding skills, trying new oral language skills and improving upon physical co-ordination skills - e.g. running, jumping, throwing and catching, folk dancing, etc.

I am excited to see how each individual continues to learn and grow. One of my favourite things to do is to extend their thinking and questioning skills. To me, Tui 5 is one of those classes I'd love to teach again in Year 6 to see how far they've come, and to share in their learning journey as they are a real delight.

Sincere thanks to the supportive whanau who are involved in our class and caring towards all students.  Thank you to the awesome team I work with at R.B.S.  It certainly 'takes a village' and I'm super grateful that I have one. Each and every day - I have many reasons to smile in Tui 5.
