INTERNET HEALTH AND WELLBEING PRESENTATION - WITH JOHN PARSONS
New Zealand’s leading authority on Safeguarding Children Online.
Are you a parent/guardian concerned about how your child uses the internet or mobile phone?
Cybercrime is a very real issue facing families in NZ, but there are easy practical steps to reduce the risk. Rangiora Borough School invites you to a presentation on the issues associated with the inappropriate use of computers, mobile phones and the internet.
Parent/Guardian Workshop: Raising Resilient Capable Children
- Identifies the specific challenges children face when using ICT
- Includes guidance on behaviour management processes for parents in the practical situations they will face
- This workshop empowers parents to take responsibility for safeguarding their children
- Parents leave with the tools to support their children in how to use ICT safely and ethically at home and at school
During the day, our 8 to 13 year old children will attend a session with John where they will have an informative and interactive time of learning.
Student workshop: Nurturing and Valuing Identity
Workshop duration: 1 hour, ages (8 to 10) and (11 to 13)
The philosophy underpinning these workshops is that students need to learn to make informed ethical decisions founded on common decency and reasonable standards of right and wrong.
John’s workshops help students learn to:
- Repel and report unwanted attention when online
- Support each other in times of need
- Project self-confidence and control online
- Nurture and protect online identity
- Future proof themselves for later employment
- Develop a strong sense of self-worth
- The importance of sleep
Staff will be attending a bespoke presentation after school and before the parent/guardian workshop.
This is one of our focus areas in the Rangiora Borough School Strategic Plan - Strategic Goal 3: Healthy Learning Environment for all.
Encouraging our community to share and understand healthy digital learning practices
