Drop off and pick up at the school gate(s)
As we get into the wetter weather especially, we need to be mindful of safe practices in our cars at pick up and drop off times.
Picking up children - particularly on a wet day - can be problematic, with a number of unsafe and incorrect practices being carried out by parents/caregivers.
The dropping off and picking up of children is a serious business. Please choose safety over convenience and follow safe practices for pick up and drop off and be m indful of the parking limits outside the school gates. You may not see the reason for the rules, but after seeing quite a number of near misses, we do.
Following is a message from the compliance officers assigned to our school.
Hope the holidays are going well.
Just a reminder for the parents / caregivers in the first week of the new term that WDC compliance officers will be around and will be issuing notices. Not all notices will be attached to the vehicle and will be posted out later that day or the following day.
Things we will be watching for are: parking on broken yellow lines, parking over driveways / vehicle entrances, mobility parks, the bus stop on Wednesdays, time limits on Church Street. We will also be issuing for Warrants of Fitness and Regos. The police also will make their presence felt with speeding vehicles and vehicles caught completing ‘U turns’ in front of the school.
Thank you for having us at your school, and I hope we can have a bit more of a regular presence at you school to keep our tamariki safe at the school gate.
Compliance Officer
Waimakariri District Council
We did have a number of warnings issued in the last two weeks of term 2 to people in respect of illegal and sometimes dangerous practices. This term both police and compliance officers will be about particularly in the first two weeks, but will also make random visits throughout the term.
