Summer Arts Festival

Taara Boyle —

With Covid alert levels making it tricky to hold events, Rangiora Borough School improvised.

It all started in Lockdown 2.0. Our school production was put on hold, but our lead actors - ranging from Year 5 to Year 8 - continued to hold daily rehearsals over Google Meet.

When we returned to school, being at Level 2 made it almost impossible to hold our production in a way that could include the community. So we came together and came up with a solution.

The inaugural Rangiora Borough Summer Arts Festival was born.

The festival saw scenes from the now postponed Production performed. This allowed our amazing Year 8's to show their hard work and efforts before leaving RBS to go to High School.

The Junior Choir performed Six 60's 'Pepeha' accompanied by the RBS strummers (Ukelele group) as well as Aotearoa Christmas.

The Senior Choir performed 'Somewhere only we know' and were back up singers for the band.

Our Year 5 & 6 Jump Jam team showed us all the routine to 'Shake it off' that made them National Champions, as well as the Year 7 & 8 team dancing up a storm to 'The Nicest Kids in Town'.

There were dances, musical performances and duets sung from different students as part of the Talent Show.

The School Band - 'Borough State of Mind' - rounded out the amazing show with their renditions of 'Gold on the Ceiling', 'With or without you' and ' Geronimo'.

The whole school were invited to watch a dress rehearsal and in the afternoon the festival was professionally videoed to allow parents, whānau and the wider community to celebrate our amazing tamariki.

This video will be shared with the community by the end of the term, fully edited and showcasing all that was shared. This will also be uploaded to our school website.
