Attendance, Absenteeism and Lateness
Our school attendance procedure recognises that regular and constant attendance at school, and that timely and constant arrival at school is vital for academic and social progress.
For these reasons, we watch both attendance and lateness. School will track an individual’s attendance when less than 90% - this equates to 6 or more days absent in a regular term. School will track an individual’s lateness when greater than 10% - this equates to 6 or more days late in a regular term.
Please phone, message the school or use the app in cases of absenteeism and lateness. This means school has a record which helps us when reviewing attendance. It also saves valuable time when no communication has been made - when this happens office staff need to make calls to ensure the safety and whereabouts of absent children.
As a reminder, school is open from 8:30am. This is a time for children to independently prepare themselves for the day and to engage in important social times. At 8:50am the bell goes to indicate the start of formal learning. This is a very important time to go over the day and the routines and expectations. Success at school has been shown to benefit from all these times.
The roll, and therefore, lateness is recorded and finalised just after the 8:50am bell.
