Rangiora Borough School

Kia ora koutou, Talofa lava, Mālō e lelei, Kia orana, Bula vinaka, Namaste, Nǐ hǎo, Salve, Bonjour, Kamusta, de Groeten, Greetings.

Thank you for your continued involvement in our school.

Our staff find it very reassuring to know that communication between home and school is active and supportive. Our Hero notices are often getting a ️ to show that you have read them. We try to ensure that all communication is shared in a timely fashion, so it is great to get the acknowledgement that this is the case. Remember that the main forms of communication is through our SMS HERO, direct emails and the School Facebook page.

Welcome to our University of Canterbury students to Rangiora Borough School. They are being hosted by Ngā Rākau e Rua and their kaiako for a 6 week placement. Welcome to Cheyenne Ranga Pokere and Devante Wawatai. We know that you will enjoy your placement with us as part of your journey to becoming teachers | kaiako.

As you are aware, the NZ Curriculum is being revised and the Maths and Statistics and English Years 1-6 are already underway with the professional learning happening as we move further into the implementation of these two curriculums. The Year 7-13 English Curriculum is currently being consulted in with schools, and due for implementation in Term 3 of this year. The other curriculum areas are out for consultation also from Term 3 this year. It is a very busy time for schools to be implementing the new curriculum changes. Our teaching staff especially, are spending a lot of additional hours undertaking continued professional learning in the two areas, and I thank them for this as they take on new learning or have previous learning reinforced. Our children are getting a great opportunity to learn from teachers who are up to date with their pedagogical understandings of the new curriculums. Thank you again for supporting the teachers as they undertake their whole school professional learning on the allocated Ministry Teacher Only Days this year. Our second Ministry Maths Teacher Only Day may be brought forward to early next term from the date we have in the calendar. We are just waiting on this confirmation and will inform you as soon as possible.

Also another reminder that this year, there will be School Boards Elections for the next three year term. We look forward to a number of people putting their hand up to be nominated as a Board member. During next term, there will be opportunity to engage with Board members in a less formal setting and ask questions about the role. We will keep you updated.

Have a great couple of weeks, and thanks again for your support.

Keep smiling

Shane
