Ngā Rākau e Rua Round Up
This week, students have been working hard on their Maths and Literacy. We are using a mixture of resources like Maths No Problem (y2-6) and Oxford Maths (Y7/8) in Ngā Rākau e Rua. We have been working with large numbers up to one billion in Year 8. We have also been discussing factors, prime numbers and composite numbers. In Literacy we are using the Code for our spelling programme.
Additionally we have been working in our Rōpu Reo (Te Reo learning groups). These groups are made from across Ngā Rākau e Rua, so we have Tuakana/Teina in action. The first half of this term has been focused on our Pepeha. We have been developing a visual pepeha also to show our pride in where we come from and our identity. We have also been mapping places in Aotearoa and learning how to ask and answer the question “Nō hea koe?” Where are you from?
We’ve also been working on a Te Matatini unit, studying the Kapa Haka Nationals (the World Cup of Kapa). Tuākana and Teina had a challenge to design either their own kakahū or tā moko. Y6-8 were researching the different kapa performing and which rohe/region they represented. We got the choice to do it in Te Reo Maori or Te Reo Pākehā.
We have also had tamariki from Ngā Rākau e Rua showing great leadership with the whole school kapa haka sessions.
Swimming has started so for the next two weeks we are going to Dudley Pool every day.
Our Buddy classes run on Fridays. Teina are buddies with Tūī 2 and Tuākana are buddies with Kākāriki 2.
We have been setting up PE games, those games include:
Basketball, Touch, Netball, Bench Ball, Silent Ball, Pūkana, Moving Plank, Volleyball, Wheke, Crazy tag.
We’ve had such a busy first half of term, we are looking forward to seeing what the second half brings.
