Term 3 continues as a vibrant place of learning for all our ākonga | learners! It has also been a great place where we have been celebrating the many successes through our Ako Ngātahi learning conferences, on the sporting fields, and in the learning spaces.

With nearly 86% attendance from whānau coming to hear from their child and teacher over the set times and other mutually agreed times, this shows that our community are excited to be present and support their child as they continue their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

I know that you will be keeping up with the changes from the Government regarding curriculum delivery expectations. As such, our professional learning is all about our Strategic Goals in our annual plan, which relate to the curriculum changes. Our Year 1-3 teachers will be participating in the Structured Literacy Training over the next month and our schoolwide Literacy lead team will be attending a national Literacy symposium together.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister outlined the changes to the Maths curriculum implementation timeline. As part of my work with NZPF, I will be involved in feedback and sharing with other principals across New Zealand. Already we have had a webinar for principals so that they are aware of resources and changes, and we are planning on another one soon. Teachers will also start to be involved in professional learning about maths. As you may well know, we have had a maths lead team of teachers in our school involved in professional learning for the last two years, to help upskill our staff of new developments and to focus on explicit teaching of maths skills and concepts. We have been working with a cluster of schools in North Canterbury to develop collective understanding. As we continue on with our learning, the NZPF will be ensuring that the Government needs to provide quality resources and time given for any professional learning to occur. I will continue to keep you up to date.

In keeping with the curriculum changes, we do have our pre planned Staff Only Day in Week 5 - Friday 23 August. As outlined in the article, this will be based on our strategic goals. School is closed on this date.

Thanks once again for your support.

Keep smiling

Shane
