Vaping

Karyn Gray —

Unfortunately we have been dealing with multiple cases of vaping at school on the school grounds.

While we acknowledge some normality to teenage experimentation and the need for education programmes, and are doing our best to cater for this, the bald fact remains that smoking and vaping of any sort is illegal on any school site in New Zealand.

Students choosing to vape on the school site, or leaving the school site in school hours to do so, are breaking the law.

In addition to education, we will be standing down students who continue to vape on the school site. These students are not only breaking the law, they are creating an unpleasant environment for other students who choose not to vape, especially inside spaces like toilet blocks. And finally the amount of staff time being used to investigate incidents of vaping could well be spent  better on other aspects of learning. Upper school students have been clearly informed in the Upper School assembly this week that any further vaping will result in a stand down from school.
