Class 9 EOTC Days

Amelia Minogue —

We have just spent three fabulous days out and about the Wellington, Wairarapa and Horowhenua region with our awesome Class 9 students who took full advantage of challenging themselves and enjoying the outdoors.

Day 1: Days Bay walk, swim and kayak

We had a lovely day out on Wednesday and even though that Wellington southerly was cold, most students had a go at kayaking and a few brave souls even did wharf jumping before swimming out to the pontoon and back. Before our water activities, we completed the steep climb up the Kereru track at Days Bay, heading back down in time for kayaking. After lunch, we played some Frisbee while others enjoyed relaxation time.

Day 2: The Remutaka Incline bike trail

What amazing weather for our bike ride on Thursday - bright blue skies and a light, refreshing wind. We started out at Kaitoke and our rangatahi were fantastic, riding at a good pace and challenging themselves to ride down the hill to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa at speed. We enjoyed the tunnels that surprised us every now and then along the way, especially the 500m summit tunnel. After reaching the carpark on the Wairarapa side faster than anticipated, we stopped for ice blocks in Featherston on the way home, which was a welcome refreshment after our ride.

Day 3: Foxton Aqua Park

We set out first thing to make up to Foxton in time for our booking, picking up the Kapiti students on the way. The class thoroughly enjoyed the obstacle course at the water park with some very entertaining moments! On our way back, we stopped at Levin Adventure Playground for lunch.

It has been a real pleasure taking Class 9 out for the past three days and seeing them push themselves outside their comfort zone at times and have fun while doing it. EOTC is a truly enriching and valuable part of our curriculum at Raphael House.
