Futsal

Clare Goodman —

Futsal is the indoor version of football. It is a fast, exciting game that requires players to be fit and possess good skills.

Over the past few years, Raphael House has fielded teams in senior and junior competitions and has been fortunate to have players who enjoy this sport and can play it at a high level. This year has been no exception as players like Alex Trainor, Archie Plunkett, Mees Starke-Arts, Flynn Goodman Morris and Jordan Herrmann have built on the skills they have honed since picking up the sport two years ago. Leo McKinnon, Mir Nathan and Benna Webster from class ten played the sport first this year and showed great promise. Perrin Weir from Class eight was a regular on the junior team and filled in on the senior team, where he demonstrated good skills.

The senior team, a mix of senior and junior players, played in Division Four of the Hutt Valley competition. The team made it to the finals of this competition, where they faced a team from Upper Hutt College. In the semi-finals, they faced another Upper Hutt College team, and it was a game in which you could say that the team had figured out how to really play futsal. The game finished with Raphael House coming out on top 14-1. The final, on the other hand, was a close and hard-fought game, and the final result was a draw; and because of Covid restrictions, it was impossible to play extra time, so the teams shared the title.
