Introducing Sharon

Karyn Gray —

Learning Support

I am Sharon and I work with the wonderful Learning Support team at Raphael House. I have worked here for nearly 8 years and Love it.

I have two beautiful children.... and two beautiful dogs.

I love to read, cook, walk my dogs and hang with my beautiful children... but for my down time I love my garden. I have just done a workshop on re-growing your vegetable waste.... and to be honest I don't think I am going to have to buy any seedlings ever again...as an example if I eat a little Bok choy...cutting the stem, soaking it in water it will grow little roots...I've noticed I will get at least 3 little plants out of the one plant....and every plant allows you to do this. Ok maybe not carrots but one carrot went to seed last year, and I kept the seeds so fingers crossed I'll have carrots too. I sliced a tomato into a ring and planted it in topsoil... I have at least 15 little tomato plants growing. and I am a little bit ashamed of how much food I have actually wasted....

This is what I have re-grown so far....

Basil

Rosemary

Lavender

Thyme

bok choy

lettuce

spinach

coriander

onion

spring onions (most successful)

cabbage

leek (although she's looking a little sad)

please don't hesitate to ask me how it is going....give it a go....lets teach our kids to be sustainable....
