Sports was the winner this week
Three Raphael House teams competed this week in First and Second place Finals games.
Tuesday night saw the RH boys hockey team play a high pressured finals game against a fired up Naenae boys team. Some interesting umpiring and a 0-0 result at full time resulted in the game going to penalty strokes.
This is not an ideal way to get an outcome from a game, especially when none of our players and goalie had practiced this particular skill. However, we managed to hold our nerves to get one up on Naenae and win the grade. Ka mau te wehi tama ma.
The Class 6/7 basketball team also won their Year 7/8 grade basketball on Wednesday night, to win their grade against Petone Central. High energy and accurate shooting was demonstrated from all members of the team. The final score being 37 -17. Miharo!
Finally, last night saw the RH girls hockey team play in their first and second finals game against the Naenae girls. A win here would have seen the girls bring home a 2022 P3 grade trophy to stand beside their 2021 R1 grade trophy.
Unfortunately for the team, they couldn't even the score against Naenae, despite multiple shots on goal guarded by a very skilled Naenae goalie. The girls played valiantly, losing 1-0, to come second in their grade. Tau kē kotiro ma!
As both the basketball and hockey season comes to an end, I would like to thank all players for their energy, their commitment, and sportspersonship and of course for representing Raphael House with integrity and humility. I look forward to many more great sporting moments in 2023. Tu meke tatou!
