Community Volunteering 7 Work Experience
Last week Class 10 volunteered for different organisations in the community. We’ve had absolutely amazing feedback from the organisations hosting them, who are blown away by their willingness to get their hands dirty and give back to the community. The places that students were volunteering at were; Kaibosh Food Rescue, the SPCA, Common Unity, Epuni School, Kaitoke Regional Park, The Shed Project, Goodtime Music Academy and The Salvation Army. We are so grateful for their willingness to take Raphael House students on for the week to gift them with such valuable experiences. Some highlights and lessons learned shared from the class were:
“I didn’t realise how much food was wasted but it was cool to see the bigger picture and how it can be redistributed back into the community”
“The store we were working at was 3rd in the country for sales and the manager said we contributed to making that happen”
“My highlight was hanging out with kittens and puppies. We had to do lots of cleaning but it was worth it”
“I learned that little kids need help with everything!”
We also have Class 11 who are still on their work experience placements, many of them in areas of work they are interested in pursuing in the future. We look forward to hearing about their experiences once they return.
Ka pai Class 10 and 11 for your mahi! A great way to finish off the year.
