School Bee Hives
Many will know that as part of the celebration for 100 years of Waldorf education, the school started a small apiary.
We now know that the amount of bees and insects that pollinate flowers is dropping and needs our help in order to build up the plant world which is a major contributor to our food.
The purpose of having the school apiary is to educate children about bees and to give our community the opportunity to engage in beekeeping. This could look like people watching with interest, helping operate the school hives or using the school hives as a stepping stone to building hives their own.
This week I was able to bring a newly purchased observation hive into class 1 to show them bees as part of their home surroundings main lesson. Hopefully more classes will follow.
