Matariki Celebrations at Raphael House

Karen Gault —

Kia ora whānau

The school is a hive of lantern making and Mid-winter Festival preparations for Thursday 16 June, hot on the heels of a successful Pentecost Festival of languages and preceding our first national Matariki holiday.

After you have enjoyed the lantern evening, the classes will be celebrating a Matariki week of activities, between 20-23 June. Each class is kaitiaki of a star (or stars) and will be hosting an activity related to the nine stars that Te Ātiawa, our local iwi, celebrate. Here are the stars according to classes:

Matariki - Class 1 (well being, gathering, remembering)

Waitī / Waitā - Class 2 (fresh and salt water)

Waipuna-ā-Rangi - Class 3 (rain)

Tupuānuku - Class 4 (earth food)

Tupuārangi - Class 5 (sky food, fruit, birds)

Ururangi - Class 6 (wind)

Pōhutukawa - Class 7 (passing on from this life)

Hiwa-i-te-Rangi - Kindy (wishes desires)

Puanga - Upper School

As you can imagine this has been a very busy term and it would be wonderful if you have any ideas of activities or resources you could share with the kaiako. Please be in touch with your child's kaiako or kaiarataki.

Ngā mihi

Whaea Karen
