Clare Goodman —

Barry Pringle

Hello, I’m Barry. I am one of the science teachers in the Upper School. I teach Science to Class 8, 9 and 10 and Chemistry to Class 11 and 12. I arrived at Raphael House, and New Zealand for that matter, in February last year. Although this will be my 18th year of teaching, I am new to Steiner and Waldorf Education. Prior to arriving here, I was in London, where I taught in a variety of schools from large comprehensives to smaller private schools. My previous job being in the UK’s largest Sixth-Form College. I am enjoying working here at Raphael House and learning about Waldorf Education and the Steiner philosophy. It is also nice being able to enjoy a relatively normal existence in New Zealand, which the UK currently doesn’t offer.

When I am not filling children’s brains with science stuff, I like to take myself off hiking, and last year completed four of the great walks. New Zealand has been full of firsts for me; first time I met my half-sister (Clare in the office) and my nephews (Flynn in Class 9 and Felix in Class 7), first time I went skiing, first time I fell over skiing, first time I ate a feijoa or drank kawakawa tea, bought my first car, and my first and hopefully last stage performance as Joseph in the Shepherds Play.

So that’s me, or at least as much I say in polite company :)
