Matariki Masterchefs

Irene Cheung —

Because many of the different stars in Matariki are associated with food, and its role caring for the dead and bringing forth the bounty of the year, Māori give thanks to this star cluster by offering food.

We may not have had an umu (ground oven) to release steam up to sky, instead, Classes 7 and 9 made bread and biscuits as part of their Matariki celebrations. Rēwena bread, lovingly made by Dominic, Naiya, Ella, Faith, Kendra, Lupita and Paige, was distributed to Lower School Classes.  While whetu biscuits, made by Class 9 were delivered to all the Kindy classes.

Ka reka e! Delicious!
