Wellington Bus / Lower Hutt Bus

Katie Musk —

Calling for expressions of interest for a Ministry funded service!

Over the past months, I have been working with the Ministry of Education on an application for a funded Wellington and Lower Hutt bus service for our school in 2022.

We are at a point where MOE have put together a proposed bus route which they have  based on the residential addresses of our students.   The next step is to gain an understanding of possible passenger numbers.  Once this is established, it will help our advisor to determine bus requirements (size etc.) and demand.

If you are interested in your young person using this service, please can you let me know prior to 12noon on Monday 6 December - email katie.m@raphaelhouse.school.nz   The current proposal begins in Brooklyn, travels through the Wellington Railway Station, along the old Hutt Road, through Petone and then parts of Lower Hutt such as Moera, Waterloo, Taita and Naenae.   It has been noted that this may be a long journey for students who embark in Wellington and it is possible that the route will need to be split into two services.   This may depend on passenger numbers or pricing once the submission is approved and goes out to tender.

We are still not over the line but I am feeling really optimistic and will keep you up to date as we go through the steps.  I am hopeful for an outcome which sees our Wellington and Lower Hutt students safely transported to and from school via bus - fully funded by the Ministry of Education.
